I never tried to touch her. I would just speak to her in a calm, sweet voice.
This is a sign of experience. The shelter worker has obviously seen many dogs in her time there, and generally knows what she has to do to help Autumn. These pieces of knowledge don't come naturally to us, humans. If we see someone who's scared, we usually want to hug and wrap them in safety - but for a dog the case is entirely different. That's why it's important to have someone who knows what they're doing. Not because a well-meaning person can't help, but because a dog deserves the best outcome and a happy ending.

Knowing that Autumn gets to have her happy ending warms my heart. The journey she had to take to be able to be adopted is inspiring. I really hope she's going to have the best time of her life in her new forever home.
